You can't tolerate bigotry

What makes bigotry thrive is being socially acceptable enough that the bigot gains an advantage by holding their views.

It is not a rational belief. Persuading someone to give up their bigotry is to persuade them to give up something that makes them more powerful in society. Fact checking a racist claim and calmly explaining the truth is not going to do a lot of good.

The most assured way to end bigotry is to make it so unacceptable that it no longer gives them any benefit. When someone starts talking racist garbage, you need to make them regret it.
