Gin Blossoms

Perhaps you have heard the song "Hey Jealousy" by the Gin Blossoms, especially if you're older than 30. I was initially going to write about how creepy it would be to have your ex-boyfriend show up at your door because he needs a place to crash and also he wants to bone you.
As I learned more about Doug Hopkins, who wrote the song, it felt like there were more dimensions to it. He was a guitarist and songwriter for the band. He was also an alcoholic with major depressive disorder. His drinking problem got so bad that he couldn't always stand up while they were recording their first album, and he got kicked out of the band.
The band went on to get famous from songs that he wrote, while he just stayed home and felt even worse about himself. He was awarded a gold record for "Hey Jealousy," but less than a month after that, he shot himself.
So, yeah, that is some creepy behavior in that song. But I can't help but feel sympathy for him.
